About the Hackathon

The NotAnotherNigerian idea hackathon will bring together young Nigerians to discuss the challenges experienced in the North East of Nigeria, create awareness and stimulate innovative solutions to counter violent extremism.

Open Call for Participation

We invite young Nigerians, software developers, designers and social influencers to participate in the #NotAnotherNigerian idea hackathon.

The idea hackathons will bring together individuals at a roundtable to discuss the challenges in the North East. Over 2.5 days in each of these locations; Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt, teams will proffer innovative solutions to counter violent extremism.

To apply, fill the application form. There is also an opportunity for you to attend only the roundtable discussion. Deadline for submission of ideas is the 27 June, 4th July and 18th July for Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt respectively.

NOTE: No form of financial support will be provided for travel and accommodation.

Idea Hackathon Events

Interested applicants must attend one of three hack events to be held in Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt between 29th June, 2018 to 22nd July, 2018.

Each hackathon event will be preceded by a roundtable discussion where key stakeholders will set the context for the hackathon. Participants will work in teams to conceptualise solutions to address the problem statement. On the final day (3rd day), solutions will be pitched to a panel of judges for a chance to receive seed grants to pilot their solutions.

Pitch and Selection of winners

Teams will pitch their solutions to a panel of judges who will select the top ideas based on their capacity to address the problems that have been identified, their potential impact and the probability of their implementation.

Solution Piloting

The 6-9 best ideas (2-3 from each location) as selected by the judges, would have the opportunity to receive seed grants towards completing and piloting their solutions with support provided by CcHub through the build and launch process.

Winners have the opportunity to receive seed grants up to N500,000 to pilot their solutions.

Entries for the hackathon closes in Abuja, Lagos & Portharcourt on 27th June 2018, 4th & 18th of July 2018 respectively

Who can participate in the hackathon?

Young people interested in making a difference (including students, entrepreneurs, software developers, designers etc) and young people from the North East.

Why the #NotAnotherNigerian Idea Hackathon?

To connect young people to the realities in the North East and give them an opportunity to actively participate in tackling problems there.

Must my idea be technology enabled?

Not necessarily, but it must be innovative and show clearly how it intends to address the problem statement.

Will provisions be made for travel expenses and accommodation?

No form of financial support will be provided for travel and accommodation.

How would solutions be judged?

A panel of appointed experts will judge the solutions and choose the most promising ones that meet the design challenge and that can be supported to be implemented. Solutions would be assessed on a range of criteria including desirability, innovation, viability and feasibility.

What kind of support will the winners receive?

The winners would have the opportunity to receive seed grants towards completing and piloting their solutions with support provided by CcHub through the build and launch process.
